The 8th Annual Interfaith Walk for Peace...

The 8th Annual Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation took place on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in the Overbrook Farms neighborhood in West Philadelphia. The purpose of this annual walk is to promote the growth of peace in our interfaith communities and neighborhoods. The group met for a pre-walk welcome gathering with prayers at the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society. The walk route began at the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas and continued on to Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship and ended at Overbrook Presbyterian Church. Brand-new Young-Adult Community Group

We are starting a brand-new Young-Adult Community Group at OSJ. Our purpose is to serve as a hub for young-adult Catholics who wish to deepen their understanding of the Bible, enrich their personal spiritual lives and gather in fellowship with their peers. All young-adults from ages 20 to 40 are welcomed for scripture study, faith-sharing and prayer. In our meetings, our study will parallel the liturgical calendar and begin with the Gospel of Matthew. Vigil for Life for Preborn Children

All are invited to paricipate in the monthly vigil for life at St. John the Evangelist, 13th & Market Streets, on Saturday, January 15. The vigil begins with Mass and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:00 a.m., Fr. John J. Pidgeon officiating. After Mass, there is a rosary procession to the abortion center. The morning concludes with Benediction back at St. John’s.

In gratitude to all who attended the performance of part 1 of Handel’s “Messiah” on December 18th.   Thanks to your generosity we raised over $1900.00 for the Old St. Joseph’s Outreach program and music program.   Also, special thanks to the Old St. Joseph’s Schola Cantorum and all who had a part in making this music event possible.
