Dear OSJ Family,

This weekend we celebrate the official start of summer as we commemorate those brave men and women who served our county and our world in the US Military. Started in 1868 as a day to honor the fallen soldiers of the just concluded Civil War, Memorial Day has grown to become a solemn recognition of all of our nation’s casualties of war and the high price that has been paid for our freedoms and liberties. This weekend then, please hold all of our servicemen and women in your prayers. Let us also remember the families of our troops. We ask for God’s blessings to fill their homes, and we pray that peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives. Let our military brothers and sisters, living and dead, feel our gratitude, love and support.

A prayer for Memorial Day:

Almighty God,

On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down

their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice

inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to

answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end

to violence and conflict around the world

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
