Holiday Reading
Thanks to any and all who donated books to our Parish Library. The Library Committee catalogued a large number of new additions on Dec. 7, 2010 among which are lots of Jesuitica and other interesting topics. There are now several works by George Aschenbrenner, S.J. (Contemplating Jesus and Becoming Whom You Contemplate; Forgiveness, An Inner Journey; Active and Contemplative, Two Apostolic Lifestyles; and Prayer, A Personal Response to God’s Presence). Lots of biography: Jesuits Peter Faber (Purcell); Edmund Campion (Waugh); Francis Borgia (Dalmases); Claude de la Colombiere (Lavigne); Isaac Jogues (Lomask); Francis Xavier (deWohl); Roch Gonzalez (McNaspy); Peter Canisius (Broderick); John de Brebeuf and Jacques Marquette (both by Donnelly). Bishop Belo of East Timor (Kohen); Franz Stock, Priest in Hitler’s Army (Hanley); Thomas Merton (Bryant); newly canonized John Henry Cardinal Newman is there to meet in Cornwell’s (Newman’s Unquiet Grave). There are other interesting options like Fred Copleston, S.J. (Memoirs; as well as his History of Philosophy, Greece and Rome). Walter Ciszek’s With God in Russia and He Leadeth Me. a volume of Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J.’s Selected Poetry. Fr. Donald Cozzens new book , The Faith That Dares To Speak, for Laity in the Church; Br. Guy Consolmagno, S.J.’s God’s Mechanics, how scientists and engineers make sense of religion; Card. Carlo Martini, S.J.’s meditations on the Evangelist (Promise Fulfilled) , and finally the Public Radio commentator on religion and faith, Kristin Trippett’s Speaking of Faith. Lots covered in these and almost two thousand other books in our Parish Library, all listed on the Old St. Joseph’s Website. If you make time for some holiday reading, I think you’d find lots here to satisfy your interests. 3rd floor of the rectory building. Library Committee: Chuck Burke, Thomas Song
