Program History
For more than twenty years, the parishioners of Old St. Joseph's Church and other volunteers in the community have responded to the need to feed the homeless and hungry poor in the neighborhood surrounding Old Saint Joseph's Church.
Founded in 1985, Carewalk was created by Thomas Pesci, S.J., William Waters, S.J. and parishioner Al Gury as a direct response to the homeless living on vents near the church. Their collective effort to feed and warm those few quickly grew into a larger more organized program.
Today, the Old St. Joseph's Outreach Program serves over 250 meals a week. Additional services such a computer classes, Life Recovery, health education, tutoring and clothing are also provided in an effort to care for these clients, many of whom suffer from mental illness, addiction and physical impairments.

Prayer of Generosity
Lord teach me to be generous,
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.
